
Venezuela Foreign Minister Elias Haua announced the impossibility of placing Russian military bases in his country, RIA Novosti reports.
“In accordance with our Constitution, we cannot allow the placement of any foreign military bases in our country,” the local media quotes Haua’s statement at a press conference in Brazil.
Earlier, Russian Minister Sergei Shoigu announced about Russia's intention to increase the number of military bases abroad. According to him, negotiations are now underway with a number of countries, including Vietnam, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Seychelles and Singapore.
The inadmissibility of the deployment of Russian military bases in the country was previously announced by the opposition in the parliament of Nicaragua.
"The Nicaraguan Constitution prohibits the placement of foreign military bases in the national territory," said Vilfredo Navarro, deputy head of the parliament from the right liberal -constitutionalist party.
