Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday asked the Federation Council for permission to use the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of Ukraine. The text of the appeal was published on the official website of the head of state.

The appeal states that this was done in connection with the extraordinary situation that has developed in Ukraine, the threat to the lives of citizens of the Russian Federation and Russian military personnel stationed in Crimea in accordance with an international treaty.

The commander-in-chief asked permission to send troops until the socio-political situation in Ukraine normalizes.

Earlier, both chambers of the Russian parliament addressed the head of state, asking them to take measures to stabilize the situation in Crimea. At the same time, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said that senators allow the possibility of sending a limited contingent of Russian troops to Crimea to ensure the security of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and the Russians stationed there.

According to Russian legislation, to resolve the issue of sending a limited contingent abroad, the head of state turns to the upper house of parliament, and it makes an appropriate decision at its meeting. Matvienko previously reported that on Saturday the Chamber Council met urgently.

On Saturday morning, the new Prime Minister of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, also addressed the Russian President with a request for assistance in ensuring peace and tranquility in the territory of the autonomous republic. The administration of Vladimir Putin promised that Russia “will not ignore” this appeal.
