A referendum on the new status of the region was announced in the Donetsk region

The decision to hold a referendum on the status of the Donetsk region was supported by 98 deputies of the regional council, only the three voted against and three more abstained. On Monday, March 3, the city site reports. The timing of the plebiscite and the question that is planned to be taken for discussion are still unknown. Andrei Shischatsky, elected by the chairman of the Donetsk Regional Council, announced the session closed by the voting results.

On Monday morning, a pro -Russian rally is held near the building of the regional parliament, in which, according tothe Ukrainian "Vesti" , about two thousand people took part. They did not allow the deputies to leave the building, grabbed parliamentarians who were trying to escape at the exit and forced them to go back with shouts: “To work!”

The rally participants also demanded that the local administration transfer all the power to Pavel Gubarev, on the eve of the People’s Governor chosen at the same rally. The deputies refused to fulfill the requirement, and the protesters attempted to storm the building and broke inside. The police did not intervene in what was happening: her boss Roman Romanov went over to the side of pro -Russian citizens. Gubarev himself announced the regional council illegitimate and invited the deputies to put up powers in exchange for leaving the building on the corridor of security. The deputies refused to hand over the mandates, but made concessions and supported the referendum.
