Regarding reports received from teachers in Moscow and St. Petersburg about being forced to participate in rallies and marches that took place on March 2 in both capitals in support of the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, the Interregional Trade Union of Education Workers TEACHER states the following:
1. Any form of coercion of Russian citizens to participate in political events is unacceptable and contrary to the Constitution. The demand from the employer's representatives for employees to attend an official event on their day off is especially cynical.
Teachers, like any other citizens of Russia, have the right to independently determine their position on any issue, including the issue of the legality and advisability of introducing Russian troops into the territory of a sovereign state.
2. Any teacher who has been subjected to pressure and punishment for his refusal to attend official rallies on March 2, as well as subsequent ones (if the practice of driving state employees to “patriotic” demonstrations continues), as well as for expressing his anti-war position in any legal form may count on support and protection from the interregional trade union TEACHER.
