In Simferopol, the unknown persons captured the specialized Secretary General of the UN Robert Serry, Ukrainian Pravda reports with reference to the director of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Information Policy Department Yevgeny Dubinis.

“Serry just said that his car in Simferopol was blocked by unknown armed people in the uniform and reported that their team was taken to the airport,” Derbyinis noted. “He refused to go, and now unknown people were actually captured and kept in hostage.”

Serry, along with a group of journalists, had to hide in the coffee shop, said James Mates, head of the ITV News European Bureau. According to him, people gathered near the coffee shop began to chant "Russia!" And "Putin!", when Cersry went outside to get into the car driven up. Then, under the convoy of the police, the UN specialist head went to the airport.

Serry arrived in Crimea on Tuesday. On February 28, after consultations at the UN Security Council, the General Secretary instructed Serry to go to the Crimea as part of his mission to establish facts. However, on March 1, Serry made a statement that he contacted the authorities of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and "came to the conclusion that visiting Crimea is not possible." After that, he went to Geneva to meet with the UN Secretary General and returned to Kyiv on Monday.

On Wednesday, the OSCE military observers aimed at Ukraine were not allowed into the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. This was stated by the head of the Foreign Ministry of Lithuania Linas Linkyavichyus, reports delfi.lt.

“They have not been allowed now. As far as I know, they are not allowed,” he said. The minister expressed the hope that it would still be able to agree with the leadership of Crimea on the admission of observers, adding that local authorities "do not very willingly come in contact with other organizations."

Earlier on Wednesday, it became known that Colonel General of the State Border Service of Ukraine Mikhail Koval was captured on Wednesday near the Yalta division of the Kupa guard of the State Border Service of Ukraine. The State Border Service reported that a group of about 40 people, which included mainly bikers, pushed the colonel general from the officers with whom he went beyond the checkpoint, and by force pushed him into the SUV. The car disappeared in an unknown direction.

At about 21:00 Moscow time, the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine reported that Koval was released. “As a result of the measures taken, it was possible to release the colonel General of the State Border Service Mikhail Koval. He was already in touch and said that everything was fine and he continues his work in the Crimea,” the report said.
