When it comes to the war, many people whom you used to read with pleasure, with whom you communicated and even made friends, turn off the brain. All sorts of post-imperial dregs come out of usually bright heads. But war is an irrational thing in itself, and civil war is doubly so (if irrationality were subject to gradation). It is also important here that most of the participants in such discussions do not have the slightest practical idea about the war, and therefore they operate with abstractions.
But when the same people, albeit poisoned by a patriotic frenzy, begin to comment on subjects in which they are rightfully considered specialists and even experts, my brain turns off already.
“The threat of arrest of accounts is, first of all, a threat to the Western financial system itself.”
"Intervention in the affairs of private companies will primarily affect the interests of American enterprises that import consumer goods, the same legs."
"If the accounts of our oil and gas companies are frozen, then the US economy will suffer no less."
“If we start to transfer our assets from the dollar to other hard currencies, for example, to the yuan or the crown, then for the United States this will turn into a financial disaster.”
I will especially note that the last quote does not belong to the presidential aide Sergei Glazyev. He owns the idea, one of the many similar ideas that are always swarming in his head. And I have no questions for Glazyev.
Let's assume that the above quotes belong to network trolls, and not to leading employees of elite specialized universities, including conditionally liberal ones, who simply cannot come to such conclusions on their own. Let it be a collective deep throat, spitting out what was stuffed into it.
However, this mental attack is easy to fight off by unsubscribing from some of the friends in the feeds and removing a couple of sites from bookmarks. But insanity is getting stronger, taking the form of legislative initiatives, and we are already accustomed to the fact that it is good to laugh at them while you are not in the paddy wagon.
It is curious that after the memorable emergency meeting, the ambush parliamentary regiment showed itself in all its glory. For a long time, the Federation Council performed the function of a copier with a furious printer - and on you, it took the initiative. Yes, what!
Andrey Klishas, head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation, said that a group of senators is preparing a bill to confiscate the property of companies from the US and the EU, as well as their citizens in the event of sanctions against Russia.
“The bill provides for the empowerment of the president and government to protect our sovereignty from attacks,” Klishas said. Truly, war is peace. It is not very clear how one can protect one's sovereignty by confiscating someone else's property. It is even less clear how the president and the government can do this, if, according to the Constitution and international norms, only a court can terminate the right to own property.
But Klishas knows better. After all, he is a distinguished jurist, professor and even chairman of the board of trustees of the Russian Bar Association. Pay attention - lawyers of Russia, not patriots of Russia. In addition, he has long worked in senior positions in large companies, including Norilsk Nickel, so he should be familiar with the basic principles of corporate law, including international law. But for now, he obviously confuses analogy and precedent, arguing according to the Soviet principle “and you have blacks hanged there”: “We have no doubt that this clearly meets European standards. Suffice it to recall the example of Cyprus, when confiscation became, in fact, one of the conditions for the provision of assistance to the country by the European Union.”
Office for the Confiscation of Foreign Property of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation - how does it sound, huh? And details that match those of the Office of Affairs ...
And by the way, about Cyprus. It is part of the European Union, so the bill conceptually allows you to confiscate the property of offshore companies, on which we have recorded a good - and better - half of the domestic economy. And who, by the way, will be indignant if we confiscate something from ourselves?
If I were a number of senators, I would think about it ... If they are still allowed to do so.
