A coalition of human rights organizations has agreed to help those detained in the courts

At the meeting, lawyers from the Memorial human rights center , the Public Verdict Foundation and YURICS (Lawyers for Constitutional Rights and Freedoms) spoke about the features of administrative cases under Art. 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses and 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, about typical violations committed by police officers when detaining activists, and about the prospects for further filing a general complaint regarding the violation of the right of citizens to freedom of assembly to the European Court of Human Rights.

On March 3, the Memorial human rights center, the Public Verdict Foundation and JURICS announced the recruitment of lawyers to represent the interests of detainees at public events in Moscow courts. These human rights organizations already provide legal assistance to detainees in the courts, but with more than 1,300 people detained, there is a shortage of lawyers. Now, together with the lawyers who responded to the call, the coalition of these three human rights organizations will be able to provide legal assistance to a much larger number of people.

Human rights organizations also agreed on joint action to protect detainees in the courts. OVD-Info coordinates this process.
