Peskov: The West uses double standards in the issue of Ukraine

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov considers the triumph of double standards of Western countries in connection with the events in Ukraine. He stated this in an interview with the Sunday evening with Vladimir Solovyov, the fragment of which was shown by the Russia-24 television channel.

“In general, the fact that we see now in Ukraine and around it is such a triumph of lawlessness, the triumph of cynicism and the triumph of the collapse of international law, the triumph of double standards,” Peskov said. He emphasized that the West recognized the new leaders of Ukraine who came to power as a result of the "power coup" legitimate.

"They were hastened to recognize legitimately, insist on their legitimacy, and at the same time completely deny the right of anyone else in Ukraine to take any actions at their discretion," Peskov noted.

The spokesman said that the Kremlin in an attempt to clarify their position in Ukraine to Western partners is faced with the "wall of misunderstanding". “This is very sad, and most importantly, it is very bad from the point of view of further possible consequences,” he said.

Peskov also urged not to look in protest actions in the east of Ukraine and in the Crimea of ​​the "hand of Moscow". “What is happening in the east and in Crimea has nothing to do with the Russian Federation. These are not man -made processes, and even more so not the processes that are the consequences of some actions of Russia,” said Peskov. “Rather, on the contrary, Russia is a country that is encouraged for help, and, as Putin said correctly, Russia is a country that in this case in no way can ignore these processes without attention.”

On Friday night, US President Barack Obama in a telephone conversation called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to look for a way of diplomatic resolution of a crisis situation in Ukraine, which would be in the interests of Moscow, Kiev and the international community. Russian troops, according to Obama, must return to their bases, and the international community should support the Ukrainian people in their preparation for the May elections of the president.

Obama emphasized that Russia's actions violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and this forced the United States to adopt the response measures that were coordinated with European partners.

In response, Putin told Obama that "the anti-constitutional coup that did not have a nationwide mandate, the current Ukrainian leaders is imposing absolutely absolutely illegitimate decisions." According to him, "Russia cannot ignore the calls for help in this regard and acts adequately, in full accordance with the norms of international law."

The Russian leader also paid special attention to the "paramount importance of Russian-American relations to ensure stability and security in the world." “These relationships should not be sacrificed to disagreements for separate - albeit very significant - international problems,” the Kremlin emphasizes.

The conversation took place on the initiative of Washington and lasted about an hour. The presidents agreed that the leaders of the foreign policy departments of the United States and Russia John Kerry and Sergey Lavrov will continue discussions.

He turned to Vladimir Putin with a request for assistance in providing peace on the territory of autonomy, after which most formations of the army and the Ukrainian Navy in the Crimea were blocked by the Russian military.

In response to the actions of Russia in Ukraine, the United States imposed visa sanctions against the persons responsible for the threat of sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country.
