The social network Facebook has begun updating the appearance of its News Feed. A message about this appeared on the official Facebook for Business blog on March 7.

The changes will affect the size of photos displayed in the feed (they will become larger in the new version) and the font used on the page. The overall background of the News Feed will also change - posts and links with trends in the feed will still be displayed on a white background, but other elements (for example, a column with links to a user’s profile, groups and events) will now be shown on a gray background.

The blog authors described the essence of the changes as follows: “The layout and navigation that people liked will remain, but the font will change and the pictures will become larger.”

As representatives of the social network noted, the sizes of advertising blocks in the news feed will remain the same. In general, the implementation of the redesign will take several weeks and will only affect the version of the social network for browsers - the design of the mobile versions of the resource will remain the same. At the same time, according to the Facebook administration, the algorithm for displaying posts in the News Feed will remain unchanged.

In March 2013, Facebook already announced a major visual redesign of the news feed. Then the social network also announced an increase in the size of photos and videos in the feed, as well as the appearance of a vertical control panel on the left side of the page. However, as the social network has now reported, that version was considered inconvenient and it was decided to abandon it.

The Facebook News Feed appeared on the social network in 2006, two years after the site launched. Previously, when visiting the resource, users were taken to a page with their own profile. Instead, it was decided to make the start page a news section, which collected all friends’ posts, updates on their statuses, comments, messages about events, birthdays, and so on.

Initially, the appearance of the tape was met negatively by many users. Users complained that Facebook was “cluttered” with too much information and threatened to refuse to use the social network if the company did not return the previous design.

Facebook announced news feed redesign
