In Yerevan on Friday, hundreds of people picked up the building of the Ministry of Finance of Armenia in protest against pension reform, anticipated by the authorities. The police detained three demonstrators. This was reported by the Armenian service of our radio station.
Protesters demanded the abolition of the law on the introduction of mandatory pension savings, which entered into force on January 1. According to the new law, citizens born after January 1, 1974 must contribute 5 percent of monthly salaries to the Pension Fund, and the government should make this contribution to another 5 percent contribution. In general, this contribution should not exceed 25,000 dramas (Evivalent $ 61) per month. The Constitutional Court of Armenia temporarily suspended the law in January after thousands of people reached the streets of Yerevan. Nevertheless, protesters say that employers continue to subtract 5 percent of their wages while they are waiting for the final decision of the court.
