The annual Folio Prize was established in February of this year by the London publishing house The Folio Society , specializing in classical literature, and is awarded for the best works in English, published in the UK over the past year.
Folio laureate can be a writer from any country in the world. The monetary part of the award is 40 thousand pounds (about $ 66 thousand).
Professor of the University of Syracue (New York) George Saunders (b. 1958) is the author of stories, stories, essays and books for children, the owner of many literary awards. His works are published in magazines such as The New Yorker , Harper's , McSweeney's and GQ .
Last week, Senders’s book “The Tenth December” was awarded the American Award of The Story Prize as the best collection of stories that published in the United States in 2013.
The short list of the first season of the Folio Award, in addition to the “Tenth December”, included the works of Sergio de la Pava (USA), Emer McBride (Ireland), Ann Karson (Canada), Emi Gage (USA), Jane Gardam (Great Britain), Kent Haruf (USA) and Rachel Kushner (USA).
