Vera Hitilova died

On Wednesday, March 12, in Prague at the 86th year of life, film director and screenwriter Vera Hitilova, one of the leaders of the Czechoslovak “New Wave” in cinema, died.

Vera Hitilova was born in 1929, studied philosophy and architecture at the University of Brno, directed at the oldest Czech Kinovuza - the faculty of television and cinema (FAMA) of the Academy of Musical Arts in Prague (Workshop of Otakar Vavra). Subsequently, Vera Hitilova became a professor of Famu, headed the department of directing.

Her full-length debut “About something else” (1963) received the Main Prize at the Film Festival in Mannheim. The most famous work of Hitilova, Margarita (1966), is considered the main and most original film of the Czechoslovak "New Wave".

Unlike many of her colleagues, Khitilova did not emigrate from Czechoslovakia after 1968, and in 1981 she shot the documentary “Hitilova against the forman”, in which she explained the reasons for her decision to stay in her homeland.

Filmography of Vera Hitilova has about 30 films, including “Silov, Silers, Forces” (1998), “Jester and Queen” (1987), “My Prague do not understand me” (1991), “Inheritance, or arrival” (1993), “Exile from Paradise” (2001).
