© Oleg Prechinkin / ICALviv National Music Academy. N.V. Lysenko deprived the Russian conductor Yuri Bashmet the title of honorary professor.
According to Gazeta.ru, citing the Academy’s website, this decision was made due to the fact that Bashmet, among other cultural and art figures, signed a letter in support of Vladimir Putin’s policy in Ukraine.
“In 2012, Yuri Bashmet was awarded the high rank of honorary professor LNM named after N.V. Lysenko. Having put his signature under the appeal in support of military aggression against the country where he grew up, Yuri Bashmet showed that he was not worthy of not only loud titles, but also the magnificent name of the “maestro”, ” the official statement of the Academy said.
Yuri Bashmet lived in Lviv from the late 1950s to 1971, graduated there a secondary special music school.
Earlier it became known that after the publication of the letter of Russian cultural figures, a concert of Russian pianist Denis Matsuev in Kyiv was canceled.
