The Crimeans got a live chain against referendum

The Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people organized an action for the unity of Ukraine and against the referendum on the accession of Crimea to Russia. The radio station "Freedom" led the live broadcast of the action. People went to the main roads of the peninsula and formed a living chain in protest against the plans of the separatists.

Not only Crimean Tatars took part in the action, but also activists of Ukrainian organizations, ordinary caring Crimeans. People chased "The referendum will not pass!", "Crimea - Ukraine." The participants of the action held Ukrainian flags, the posters "no war", "Crimea - for peace", "no referendum."

On Friday, the ex-head of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people, People's Deputy of Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev, speaking at the NATO headquarters, said that Crimean Tatars demand the introduction of the UN peacekeepers on the peninsula. It is reported by the "Mirror of the Week". Dzhemilev noted that the necessary decision of the UN Security Council for this can be blocked by Russia. “However, the procedure should still begin,” he said.

Dzhemilev called on European diplomats and representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance not to take into account the results of a referendum appointed on Sunday. “They will not depend on the appearance or will of voters, because such a desire for those who introduced troops to our territory and the results are already predetermined. Carrying out such a referendum and still in the state of occupation is simply meaningless abuse of elementary democratic principles,” Dzhemilev said.

On Wednesday, the head of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, said that Crimean Tatars will boycott a referendum on the status of the region. “Today everyone suddenly fell in love with the Crimean Tatars. The Crimean Tatar factor will become at the forefront. We need to continue to act according to conscience. This is our land. Nobody asked us when we were developing some plans. The referendum, from my point of view, cannot be.

The authorities of Crimea appointed a referendum on the status of the republic on March 16. Residents of Crimea are invited to choose whether to stay in Ukraine or join Russia. The authorities in Kyiv called the vote illegitimate and refused to recognize its results. Western countries also opposed such a referendum. The Russian leadership expressed support for the decision of the Crimean authorities.
