Theater capital

Material for the next publication of the joint project of the magazine Theater. " And Colta.ru " Bakhrushinsky Museum Online " We collected by studying the collection of the department of the photographical documents of the museum . Among the thousands of archival photographs, several folders with the heading "Architecture" were preserved . In them, there are photographs of the external and internal appearance of Moscow theaters related to different decades and centuries. Some of them are easily recognizable, others with difficulty, others and completely disappeared from the face of the city. Today is the first part of the photographer in theatrical Moscow, prepared by Valery Zolotukhin.

In this building, on the corner of the Maly Gnezdnikovsky and Tverskaya at the beginning of 1880, two years before the abolition of the monopoly of imperial theaters, the first Moscow private theater was opened-the entreprise of actress Anna Brenko. The Pushkin Theater (this name was assigned because of the proximity to the recently opened monument to Pushkin) gathered excellent actors from the province, among whom there was a place for the novice writer, the future author of Moscow and Muscovites, Vladimir Gilyarovsky. In 1888, amateur actors of the Moscow Society of Art and Literature began to play their performances here, in which Konstantin Stanislavsky began. The building stood until the reconstruction of Gorky Street in the 1930s. Following the demolition in its place, residential buildings were built.
