Rada guaranteed the rights of the Crimean Tatars as the indigenous people of Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine guaranteed the rights of the Crimean Tatars as the indigenous people of the country, UNIAN reports . The draft relevant resolution was supported by 283 out of 309 deputies registered in the hall. The document comes into force from the day of adoption.

In accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, as well as a number of international norms, in particular the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Crimean Tatars are guaranteed the preservation and development of ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity. In addition, the resolution recognizes the right to self -determination of the Crimean Tatars in Ukraine.

The Rada also recognized the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people by the highest representative body of the Crimean Tatars.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is instructed to urgently develop and submit draft laws and by -laws that guarantee the rights of Crimean Tatars as the indigenous people of Ukraine. In the course of preparing these documents, officials are ordered to consult with the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

In addition, the Cabinet is glad to develop practical mechanisms of interaction between the national executive bodies and the Mejlis.

The Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people boycotted a referendum on the annexation of Crimea by Russia and refused to recognize the puppet government of the region, formed at the end of February. The Crimean Tatar leaders rejected proposals to the Proproma of the Crimean Cabinet of Ministers.
