
Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili was invited to the main prosecutor's office of the country for interrogation as a witness in a number of criminal cases. According to ITAR-TASS, this was announced at a special briefing in Tbilisi by the official representative of the department. The interrogation will take place on March 27.
The ex-president will be interrogated on the issue of pardoning persons convicted of the murder of the United Bank of Georgia in 2006 by Sandro Girgliani. Four convicted people in this case were pardoned in 2008 by order of the president Mikhail Saakashvili, who then held the post of president.
The representative of the department also said that among the cases in which the need for the interrogation of Saakashvili arose, cases of the death of the Prime Minister of the Zurab Zhvaniya; the case of a special operation to suppress the rebellion of the battalion of the Georgian Armed Forces in Mukhrovni in 2009; the case of illegal actions against the family of businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili; On embezzlement in 2009-2012 on the balance sheet of a special service of the state guard in the amount of more than $ 5 million.
The official representative of the head of the Office specified that the investigation of a number of cases is in the final phase, and the prosecutor's office faces the need for the interrogation of Mikhail Saakashvili as a witness in these matters.
Saakashvili served as President of Georgia from January 2004 to November 2013.
