The Hague opens a nuclear security summit: the main topic is a crisis in Ukraine

In The Hague on Tuesday, the next one opens - the third in a row - a two -day nuclear security summit. Its main topics were to reduce the reserves of dangerous radioactive substances, a decrease in the number of objects where they are stored, improving the protection of these objects and strengthening international cooperation in the field of nuclear security.

However, nuclear themes are expected to be far from the main one. Leaders of more than 50 countries will have to discuss the more important topic of relations with Russia that have become more important recently, which have aggravated in connection with the situation in Ukraine and the accession of Crimea .

As you know, the majority of representatives of the international community previously spoke out against the recognition of the referendum results on the Crimean separation. Russia recognized these results, after which it included the former Ukrainian autonomy in its composition. As expected, at the Summit in the Hague, further sanctions will be discussed, which can be imposed by participants in the international community in relation to the Russian Federation.

In total, leaders of 53 countries and representatives of four international organizations will take part in the summit. According to ITAR -TASS, the Ukrainian issue will be devoted to the meeting of the leaders of the Seven - Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, the USA and Japan.

It is expected that the United States will raise the question of the exclusion of Russia from the G8. As Kommersant notes, the first step towards this, in fact, has already been taken: the forum will be a meeting of the leaders of the Seven - for the first time in Russia without the participation of Russia.

However, last week, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the G8 no longer exists and would not exist, "until there will be a suitable political situation." According to the observers of the Russian BBC Russian service , the actual rejection of the “large eight” format, created after the end of the Cold War, means that Moscow may encounter long -term political and economic isolation.

As reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin does not participate in the summit. According to the Kremlin’s website , on Monday the head of state will hold a meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports, at which he will discuss the results of the past Olympiads and Paralympics in Sochi , and will also present the Games and coaches of the State Technical University.

Instead of Putin, Russia in The Hague will be represented by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He has a meeting with an American colleague - US Secretary of State John Kerry, during which Ukrainian themes will be affected.

Among other participants in the summit, US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, PRC Chairman Xi Jinping and UN Secretary General Pan Gi Moon. Earlier it was reported that the meeting will take part in the Verkhovna Rada for the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk. However, later it became known that he could not visit her because of the need to complete negotiations with the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), from which Kiev expects to receive financial assistance, the Ukrainian Agency UNIAN reported.

After the flight of the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, Yatsenyuk announced that the state treasury was empty , it has 75 billion dollars, and the total amount of Ukrainian debt obligations is $ 130 billion. According to the calculations of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance, about $ 35 billion in 2014-2015 will be required to save the country.

The nuclear security summit has been held since 2010 on the initiative of the United States. The idea of ​​holding an international forum belongs to President Barack Obama. The current meeting will be the third in a row. The first such forum was held in 2010 in Washington, the second - in 2012 in Seoul.
