"Manege" launches the educational program "Production of avant -garde"

In April, the first semester will begin the long-term international research program “Projection of the avant-garde”, organized by the Manege museum and exhibition association and the Center for Culture and Art “Mediaartlab”.

The educational program “The projections of the avant-garde” (author-Olga Shishko) is a complex of diverse events: mini-conferences, lectures, discussions, musical and theatrical reconstructions, cinema scenes, excursions.

Researchers and critics will tell how the ideas of the avant -garde, the technological and information revolutions of the twentieth century consistently transformed artistic tools, discovered the possibilities of alternative ways of reproducing and transmitting information. A century after the creation of the “black Suprematist square” of Kazimir Malevich - the iconic work of the avant -garde, the discussion remains open: where are the traces of the avant -garde experimenters? What role does their legacy play in modern culture?

“The projections of the avant -garde” will present a detailed story about the art of the beginning of the twentieth century, allow students to study the heritage and significance of the Russian avant -garde from different points of view, analyze the influence of avant -garde experiments and achievements on the formation of culture today.

In mini-conferences, lectures and discussion sessions, in particular, they will take part:
- Jean-Claude Markade (France)- author of the world's first monograph on Malevich's work;
- Philip Sers (France) - a French philosopher, art historian, author of the book Totalitarianism and Avangard: on the eve of the transcendental ";
- Steve Dixon (Great Britain) - President of the Lasalle Art College (Singapore), author of the book “Digital performance: the history of new media in the theater, dance, performance and installation”;
- Ramon Belur (France) - theorist of cinema and literature, founder of Artsept magazine;
- Philip Oswalt (Germany) - architect, director of the Bauhaus museum in Dessau;
- John Boult (USA) is a professor at the Department of Slavic languages ​​of the University of Southern California. The creator and director of the Institute of Modern Russian Culture at the University of South California in Los Angeles.

The program opens with a round table “The search for avant -garde. Past, present, future. " The historical approach to the study of the avant -garde and the issues of modern embodiment will be considered by the curators of the six blocks of the “Projection of the Avangard” program, the leading Russian specialists and practices - Ekaterina Bobrinskaya (visual art), Evgenia Shermeneva (Theater), Milena Musina (Cinema), Andrei Smirnov (Music), Irina Korobin (architecture) and Dmitry Karpov (literature).

Among the events of the Procation of the Avangard Projection program, the performance of the audiovisual artist, the pioneer of the optical synthesis of Derek Holzer, the premiere of the multimedia performance “Death of Talekin”, created by students of the open school “MediaArtlab” and artists “Ballet Moscow” under the leadership of the Russian-Belgian artist Aleksandra Dementieva and the choreographer Ignatieva, the performance of the pioneer of the digital performance Steve Dixon, as well as film screenings from leading film experts, architectural excursions, discussions involving international level specialists.

The project events will be held throughout 2014 at the MANEZH MSO site and project partners - in museums, theaters and concert halls of Moscow.

By the beginning of the first semester, it is planned to release the guide under the educational program “Projection of the Vanguard”. In addition to the main program, it will include events that will be held on friendly sites, parallel projects dedicated to the research of the Russian avant -garde.
