The Garage will become a museum

The Center for Modern Culture "Garage" in Gorky Park as a result of rebranding by May of this year will turn into a museum.

“Changing the status will promote communications with leading international museum institutions and expand the target audience. The decision will not entail cardinal changes in key areas of work, ” RIA Novosti said today, March 27, the press service of the Garage CSI.

The center already in the status of the museum will continue to bring exhibitions of the main world artists to Moscow (it has already been shown, in particular, the projects of Marina Abramovich and John Baldessari), as well as engage in their own expositions, the development of educational and publishing and the support of young artists.

Currently, the Garage is located in a temporary pavilion, built according to the project of the Japanese architect Shiger Ban, who recently received the Pritzker Prize. Classes are held in the reconstructed former locker room near him.

Another building - a popular restaurant “Seasons” in Soviet times - is reconstructed according to the project of Bureau Rem Kolkhas and will be open next year. “The building with an area of ​​almost 6000 sq.m will retain the original elements of Soviet architecture and decor, fully meeting the international requirements for the museum space,” the press service of the Garage reports.

Investments in the reconstruction of the building abandoned over the past 20 years will amount to $ 27 million. The process of rebranding, which includes a change in the logo, corporate identity and name, will be completed by May 1.
