Eight employees of the resuscitation department and intensive care of the Petersburg Hospital named after Peter the Great declared a hunger strike, demanding an increase in salaries. Two and a half days later, doctors suspended a hunger strike due to a deterioration in well-being. However, they intend to continue it until President Putin pays attention to them. "We - eight people - agreed that we will again try to solve the problem with our low salaries in a peaceful way. The fact is that after two and a half days of the hunger strike, all of us had a headache and signs of past unfinished diseases.

I met with the rector (the clinic is part of the North-West State Medical University named after Mechnikov.-Ed.). He told me that the hospital has no money, and the Ministry of Health is responsible for our low salaries. Today we will discuss further actions with him. The rector is not at all against us, as you see. Like our senior comrades. Many of them warned me, because I am a student: they say, in the exams they will put sticks in the wheels.

Be that as it may, we will have to start a hunger strike again if our hope for a dialogue with the Ministry of Health is not justified. And I'm a pessimist.

It is clear that not only to us is bad: everywhere in Russia medical workers will complain to you at low salaries and difficult working conditions. But it got us. We are tired of hearing unreal figures about our salaries that officials pronounce. In Rosstat, for example, they believe that we get up to 32 thousand rubles. I get six thousand rubles by half a time. I’m already thinking about changing the profession and becoming a trolley bus driver. They say that 44 thousand are paid in St. Petersburg.

Meanwhile, it seems to me that it is he who should clarify the situation. After all, it is he who publicly says things that contradict the real deplorable situation in our hospitals. Everything else, including statements by the Ministry of Health and Rosstat, is secondary. However, I am not only a pessimist, but also a realist. I think the president, firstly, does not know about our hunger strike, and secondly, if I knew, I would not be worried about our lives. ”

In July 2013, doctors of the Filippovsky children's hospital in Stavropol announced a hunger strike. Thus, they protested against the dismissal of the chief physician Vyacheslav Kashnikov, who was deprived of the position of allegedly for corruption violations committed during the surrender of Stavropol schoolchildren of the exam. As a result, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Stavropol restored Kashnikov in his position.

In April 2013, children's doctors of Izhevsk, working in the 6th and 9th clinics, conducted a hunger strike and the Italian strike.
