The Committee of protest actions intends to hold an action on April 13 in defense of the freedom of the media, reports Lenta.ru. Member of the Committee, Alexander Ryklin, said that the corresponding notification has already been submitted to the Moscow City Hall. Among the applicants, the actions were, in particular, the writer Dmitry Bykov and political analyst Georgy Satarov.

It is expected that an event called "March of Pravda" will be held along the boulevards from the Turgenevskaya metro with Pushkinskaya Square, where a rally will then be held. The organizers believe that up to 50 thousand people will take part in it. The march will be held under the slogans "For honest independent media", "For the right to information" and "for an open society, against xenophobia."

Over the past few months, several events have occurred in the media sphere, marked by increasing pressure on the media by the authorities. In December last year, it became known about the reorganization of the state news agency RIA Novosti. A new structure of Russia today has been created on its base, which is expected to be transmitted by the point of view of the Russian authorities to the foreign audience.

In February, the Rain television channel was on the verge of closing due to the massive disconnection of the channel from the packages of leading cable and satellite TV operators. The disconnects were associated with a survey about the blockade of Leningrad, in which the audience was asked if the city should have passed the city to the Nazis in order to save human lives. The leadership apologized for the survey, but the providers continued to turn off the channel.

In March, Roskomnadzor blocked several independent Internet publications at once, including the “City”, Kasparov.ru and “Daily Journal”. Blocking is challenged in court. Meanwhile, the representative of the department said that it would not be removed.

Also in March, the owner of the Holding "Poster-Rabler-Sup" holding Alexander Mamut replaced the leadership of Lenta.ru. The editor -in -chief of the publication Galina Timchenko and general director Julia Minder were resigned. Following them, the vast majority of employees resigned from Lenta.ru.
