“It’s no secret that in the early 90s, Crimea was the most criminal region of Ukraine, which was divided by several organized criminal groups, the most powerful of which were two – “Bashmaki” and “Salem”, which periodically started and stopped between represented a fierce struggle for the redistribution of spheres of influence. Why, in Ukraine, there was, perhaps, no such rampant of organized criminal groups in any other place in the former USSR.

Around 1998, in Kyiv they decided that it was time to end the real power in the autonomy, the criminal authorities, and Ukrainian law enforcement agencies began mass imprisonment of those Crimean brothers who had not previously devoured each other themselves.”
