The founder of the VKontakte social network Pavel Durov said he was leaving the company. He reported this on his page on the social network.
“Following my brother, who left the post of technical director in the middle of last year, I take off the duties of the general director of VKontakte,” Durov wrote.
According to him, as a result of the events that followed the change in the joint -stock staff of VKontakte in April 2013, the freedom of action of the general director in management of the company was significantly reduced. “It is becoming increasingly difficult to defend the principles that were once laid for the basis of our social network,” Durov explained.
At the same time, Durov noted that he would continue to participate in the life of the social network as the founder.
Recall that in March 2014, Mail.ru Group Limited acquired Bullion Development Limited, which owns 11.996% of the VKontakte social network. Thus, the total share of Mail.ru Group in the social network will be 51.99%.
VKontakte changed the owner in the spring of 2013. Then 48% of the social network shares were bought by the United Capital Partners Foundation, whose president and managing partner is Ilya Shcherbovich.
