Spending on presidential elections in Ukraine reduced by a third

The amount of expenses for holding elections of the head of state in Ukraine was reduced by 790 million hryvnia after amendments to the law on presidential elections, Interfax reports . Now the cost of the elections is 1.174 billion hryvnia.

This was announced today during a press conference by the head of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine Mikhail Okhendovsky. According to him, it was originally planned to allocate UAH 1.965 billion from the budget for organizing the elections.

Okhendovsky explained that the reduction in election expenses became possible as a result of the reduction of representatives from each candidate in the district and precinct election commissions from two to one. Also, savings contributed to the reduction of the term of office of election commissions and the number of posters at each polling station from five to two copies for each candidate.

Early presidential elections in Ukraine are scheduled for May 25. The CEC has registered more than 20 candidates for this post.
