Former head coach of the Russian national hockey team Vyacheslav Bykov has been appointed head coach of the St. Petersburg hockey club SKA, according to the official website of the club.

This decision was made today at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the club.

In addition, following the results of the meeting, head coach Jukka Jalonen and his assistants were fired.

"Due to unsatisfactory results, the entire sports block was dismissed: head coach Jukka Yalonen, coaches Mikhail Kravets, Alexei Gusarov and Jussi Parkkila, physical training coaches Alexander Troshin and Denis Mikhailichenko, general manager Alexei Kasatonov, sports director Andrey Tochitsky," according to the press service of the SKA.

The contract with Bykov was concluded according to the "2 + 1" scheme, which implies an extension of the contract for a year with the consent of both parties after two years of work as a coach. Otherwise, the club management will refuse to cooperate with the coach.

Vyacheslav Bykov headed CSKA from 2004 to 2009. From 2006 to 2011 - the national team. In 2008, under his coaching, the Russian national team became the world champion for the first time in 15 years, repeating this achievement the following year. The Russian Hockey Federation did not renew the contract with Bykov after the national team's performance at the 2011 World Championship, where it took fourth place.
