In India, those accused of two gang rapes were sentenced to death for the first time, reports Agence France-Presse .
The court found three men aged 19 to 28 guilty of two gang rapes. After the trial of the first incident - an attack on an 18-year-old girl - they were sentenced to life imprisonment. Now the court has revised the sentence due to a new law that provides for the death penalty for repeated crimes.
The second male victim, according to the BBC , was a 22-year-old photojournalist.
In 2013, after a series of gang rapes, as well as the death of one of the victims of the attack, under pressure from public opinion, the country's authorities tightened penalties for sexual crimes.
