The separatists who captured the Donetsk Regional Council announced the creation of an independent Donetsk Republic, reports the local publication "Ostrov". This decision was made at an extraordinary session of the self -proclaimed "people's council" of the Donetsk region.

Earlier, the separatists demanded that such a decision at the legitimate session of the regional council. However, the deputies refused to hold a meeting. The capturing the building “deprived” of their mandates and “formed” the “people's regional council”.

The creation of a rally at the walls of the regional council building reported the creation of the Donetsk Republic. "From now on, the Donetsk region is an independent republic. Hurray!" he said. The crowd met this statement with ovations and cries "Russia, Russia." Later, the People’s Council made another decision - on the entry of a newly created republic into Russia. The protesters met a message about this with screams: "Putin, help!"

In addition, the People’s Council accepted the appeal to Russia with a request to introduce a peacekeeping contingent, one of the leaders of the self -proclaimed organization said. “Only in Russia we see the only defender of our culture of the Russian world. Only the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian army will be able to give a convincing signal of the Kyiv junta, which came to power through weapons and blood,” RIA Novosti cites his words.

The leaders of the "People's Council" also announced the intention to hold a referendum on joining Russia no later than May 11.

The flag of the Donetsk region was removed from the flagpole near the regional council and replaced by the flag of the Donetsk Republic. The protesters continue to strengthen the barricades, bring car tires. They ask for help from the stage by transport. Near the barricades are barrels of combustible mixture. As one of the activists curled the "island" correspondent, they are ready to set them on fire if necessary.

On Sunday, in Donetsk, the Prossei protesters seized the building of the regional state administration, demanding an immediate convocation of an extraordinary session of the regional council and the decision to hold a referendum in the region to join Russia. On the fact of the capture of buildings, the police began an investigation under Part 1 of Article 294 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (riots).
