A referendum on the creation of the republic was decided no later than May 11

Supporters of federalization of Ukraine announced the creation of an independent Donetsk People’s Republic. Such a statement was made by protesters who seized the building of the regional administration in Donetsk on April 6, reports UNN.
The referendum on the creation of the republic was decided no later than May 11, Interfax reports. The activist who announced the referendum added that the date of the plebiscite was agreed with supporters of federalization who organized rallies in the Lugansk and Kharkov regions.
On the building of the administration, the flag of the Donetsk region was replaced by the flag of the Donetsk Republic,
according to the Twitter of IA "Ostrov". Then, at a session of the federalization of the “People’s Council” formed from supporters, it was decided to join the created republic into Russia, UNIAN
reports . Deputies of the Council also appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to introduce a temporary peacekeeping contingent into the region, the ITAR-TASS report
said . Earlier, participants in protest actions advocating the expansion of the powers of regional self -government bodies in Ukraine seized the building of the regional administration in Kharkov. Subsequently, supporters of federalization
were ousted from the premises of the Regional State Administration. In Lugansk, activists stormed the SBU building and captured a branch of the National Bank of Ukraine. The leadership of the administration of the Luhansk region closed and sealed the premises of the Regional State Administration in connection with the “high threat of the life of employees and the danger of the capture of the building”, the eastern option
reports with reference to the press service of the regional government. On April 6 in Donetsk, Kharkov and Lugansk, rallies were held, at which the audience called for a referendum on the status of regions and recognition of the Russian language to the second state language in Ukraine. Representatives of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies
went to three regional centers to resolve the situation.
