On the short fingers of the director are two heavy rings. Irina Savelyevna sits at a long table and fits a pencil in her hands. Her back is doused with the sun, then disappearing, then again appearing above the peak of Kazbek, sparkling like a line of diamond. Heap clouds are carried in the morning sky in different directions, changing lighting in a small office.
“The park of Kosta Khetagurova has turned not clear into what ...” says Irina Savelyevna. -This is Vapshch! I very often, especially in the summer, go down with the head teacher to the park. I say, let's go, let's go, there are our girls and boys there or not. Pah-pah-pah,-she knocks on the rim of a wooden table,-I have never seen them there. But they already know that at any moment I can appear.
A portrait of the famous Ossetian poet hangs above the director’s right hand. With a mustache like a brush, he strictly looks around the cabinet with brilliant eyes. In the center of the table is a heavy crystal bowl. The teacher just came in and put sweets in her: she asked to remember her father. In the corner, on a thin shelf, there are smoothly gilded icons, with the brilliance of which the sun deftly plays.
“I recently wrote an article“ Appeal to my parents, ”says the director. - I say: sometimes go out and see what your daughter and your son do in the park do ... Well, son - I'm especially ... This is a boy! But girls! Girls! She says loudly, throwing her full hands over her head. - I recently gathered our high school students and say: would you marry such girls? Who are now sitting on the knees of the guys, and then, as if there was nothing, they will stand in the corner, like Chyns , in another completely family? I say: would you marry such girls? They shout: "No!" I say: And if it was your sister? And one boy answers me: I, he says, would have turned her neck, tore his head. - Irina Savelyevna nods approvingly and straightens the hairstyle similar to a fur hat. -What is happening ... Vapsch-though ... these recreation areas made: how beautiful, how good. And you go out somewhere, look, and for sure these couples do not understand what. When I walk with my granddaughters, I constantly say: “Do not turn around! Look only forward. "
- Do you have a lot of granddaughters?
“Already enough,” Irina Savelyevna claps with small eyelashes. “Five granddaughters and two grandchildren.”
- And children?
- I have three children. Two girls ... Well, son ... I buried my son, for the eleventh year - she exhales. - He was gone. Such a healthy guy ...
- What's happened?
“An accident,” the director beats his hand along his knee. - I’m asking my son -in -law, my daughters I ask: take me once to this place. “No,” they say. And now for eleven years, like I am not at all ... If not for work, I would probably have long been ...
Through the wall you can hear the schoolgirls with an accent sing: "On a large balloon ...". “My poor girls, they’ve been jumping for a week,” says Irina Savelyevna and explains that they are preparing for the “Battle of the choirs”. In the first round, in black aprons, with neatly stacked hair they re -shut on Katyusha in Ossetian, but then the organizers approached the director and said that this was not a patriotic competition, we should dress here brightly and sing completely different songs. After that, schoolgirls were obliged to buy high -heeled shoes, and now they repel the rhythm to the song of the Christmas tree.
Lermontov is in short ... It is he, a jackal, so he wrote about Ossetians.
“I am against this exam, Vadim,” Irina Savelyevna begins. Round earrings in her ears sway like a pendulum. - If it will be carried out in the form in which it is now being carried out, I am one hundred percent against. These are unscrupulous things. We do not teach children anything good except deception. And for this I hate them! I have one student did so in SOGU . And I somehow sat in their lesson, and they wrote an essay. I'm sitting behind him. Something is incomprehensibly written there with him, I am so sitting, watching that he wrote. And so he writes. Look, - she runs an ink pen along a white sheet, “Woe about Tuma.” So he writes. I say: Give your notebook here. I saw it! I say: what is this? How can you? Dechane it, I tell you! And he graduated from SOGU with honors.
- What specialty?
-Fi-Log! - She will cure, as if she had spent all her life in Penza. - He was still so praised! While he was studying, the dean called me, he said: Irina Savelyevna, what a boy, which boy. And I think: "My God ... If you have this leading student, then I can imagine what others are there." And this student took, of course, the phone. I went to the toilet. And so he spoke loudly there that he had already entered the duty officer. And Sandro immediately threw the phone into the toilet. The teacher then says to me: “I hear:“ Bul-Bul-Bul ”-what is this?” And when I told him: Sandro, you would at least regret the phone, would put it somewhere, in the toe, for example,-he says to me: "Nice, the phone was inexpensive." - Irina Savelyevna laughs, her skin tightly tightens the whole face, and it seems as if the director was petrified.

There are twenty people in the tenth grade. The boys have black stripes in black suits, and girls in blue aprons and with hair pulled with hair.
I give out a literature test and say that every lesson will start with it.
“This is this one,” two at the first desk. One has red hair glued to the head, and the second has one wavy arc of eyebrows above the eyes. “Lermontov is, in short,” says Red, his name is George. - It is he, a jackal, so he wrote about Ossetians.
After two desks, a boy with a square face is sitting from me, like a concrete block on her head. His name is Oleg.
- Why don't you write? - I ask him.
“I don't want to,” Oleg replies.
“What kind of work are we talking about ...” Alan says from the first desk.
“Yes, close your mouth,” George interrupts him. - What, are you writing Lermontov? Write the Caucasus!
“Name the author ...” Alan reads him. - Turgenev, "Asya" ...
- Turgenev Asya? Do you know her? - asks George. Everyone laughs.
““ Ossetian crazy bullet ... ” - Alan reads. - Ossetian again?
- Yes, close your mouth. We still don’t know what to do.
I collect work.
“Let's check the test,” I say and read an excerpt from Lermontov. - "Ossetians noisily surrounded me and demanded vodka ..."
- The hero of our time! Lermontov! - screams George. - He must be burned for such words.
- Why still touch the nations? - says Alan, taking his eyebrows into a checkmark, so only half of his eyes are visible from above.
A portrait of Putin hangs over the green board in the office, and the flags of Russia and Ossetia are hanging around the edges. The board in the classroom is old and as if coated with fat: I write the number and in the reflection I see how schoolgirls are photographed on an iPhone. Rare yellow minibuses pass outside the window. Every hour in the church at the school they hit the bell, whose ringing is similar to the announcement of the beginning of the round. Some in the class will stand up when the ringing from the temple flies into the open window.
- Why did you drown Mumu? - I turn around.
Everyone begins to laugh.
“She bit,” someone shouts.
“And for this they killed her?” - My words scatter in the classroom and turn into noise.
- Gerasim ... deaf -mute ... forced ... a dog ... - a guy in a purple shirt sits far from me and, as if a fish, swallows the air almost silently.
- Why did he kill her? - I say loudly, highlighting the last word.
“He was ordered,” George answers.
“He obeyed the hostess,” someone says. There are many voices around. If you imagine that the class is the brain of the school, now our school is crazy.
“I'll just remind you the plot,” I say. - It is about the story “Mumu” that a strong man, who was called Gerasim, lived. He was deaf -mute. And he spent his whole life in the village. Which of you was born not in the city, but in the village?
A couple of a person raises their hands, but not higher than the desks, as if we have a confrontation here, the rest laugh at them.
I have been telling the plot of the story for a long time until I notice how quietly in the class. All these children look into my eyes and listen to how the janitor goes to drown the dog.
“What do you think,” I say now seriously, “why did Gerasim drowned Mumu?”
“Because if he disobeyed,” says George, “he would have a kh-kh,“ he twists his fists, depicting a suffocation.
“He could escape with her,” he heard from the back rows.
- Could, but did not run away.
- Because he loved a woman! - Alans gets up and screams. - He loved a woman!
- What does a woman have to do with it? - I say, and Alan sits offended.
- The lady would have punished him! He did not want to depend on anyone, - he heard in the noise of voices.
The bell rings. We never understood, in the name of which we drowned the dog.

“In Chechnya, they say, they need teachers, that is, there are few professionals as such,” says Svetlana Fedorovna, bourgeoisly pronouncing words.
We are sitting in a teacher's lacquered table reflecting the sky. Clouds swim over the mountains and draw on the table blinding figures that Svetlana Fedorovna circle with a pencil. In the center is white, with cornflowers on the border, a plate with fat whites.
“And they probably pay them good?” - I ask.
“Yes ...” she pulls confidently. -They say that somehow this Kadyrov just arrived at school, went to the lesson, sat in the back, listened, he liked it, he went to the teacher, put the thousand dollars on her table and left. So suddenly: he does not warn anyone, nothing. So he wanted to visit, for example, a kindergarten, he went to the kindergarten. School? Yes to any lesson.
- Your president does not do that?
- Oh, what are you! This still needs to be called, warn, so that Shuher is brought here. And so you need to visit, I think. If you go, for example, to check, then once-once-and went in, checked. So that this is not a showdown, but a really real picture. And if they call me, they will say that in my lesson there will be mamsurov in my lesson, I will make such a theater from the lesson that it will leave here-oh what. And you come to a regular lesson! Come to everyday lesson. We do not always give Asov lessons. And such meetings with him still have to be earned! - She beats her fist in a clearance in a cloud. - He should be ashamed! Here I first say so: if you did something ... They do Kadyrov, because he deserved everything, by and large, he does everything for his republic, for his people, and our what does it do, by and large? Does nothing.
Kadyrov just arrived at school, went to the lesson, he liked it, he put the teacher on the table on the table and left.
Watman hangs on the door to the teacher with teachers' birthdays this month. On a white sheet, names and numbers are written out with blurry blue patterns. In a low armchair at the cabinet sits a little Rimma Alimbekovna. Her cloudy brown hair looks like a battered sponge. Turning her head to the window, she closed her eyes and tightly squeezes her narrow lips, sleeps calmly.
The head teacher enters the office. She unfolds a white roll and hangs it on a sheet. "Attention! All school teachers until the end of the month urgently pass Flyuro! ”
- What is it? -In a pale pink sweater, Svetlana Fedorovna drinks tea.
“Romeo and Juliet,” the head teacher answers.
-Alla-ah! Lyubof?
“Lyubof,” says the head teacher.
- Seventh grade, Diana, Lyubof do not come! - Svetlana Fedorovna says hoarsely.
- How are Oleg in mathematics? - I ask her.
-Oleg is pretty good. Only he missed a lot.
- Is he silent with you too?
- Oleg? Yes, he is silent.
“They had a funeral recently,” says Rimma Alimbekovna as in a dream. Her little wrinkled face is as if excited by a thread. - His brother was killed in a shootout.

I distribute a new test: to give examples from literature on certain topics.
- What is chauvinism? - screams George. He knocked on two desks further.
“This is almost the same as nationalism,” I answer.
“Lermontov then,” he says, and lowers the red head to the sheet.
- What is a sudden death? - Ask behind their backs. - Is this when it is ahead of time?
- Yes.
- And you can not write the authors?
“If you don’t remember, don’t write,” I turn to the boy with chubby cheeks.
“Not-e ... I'm just too lazy,” says Dzgoyev.
The whole class sits, bent over and bowing to the desks of the head so that I see only a long line of their shoulders and the head. So they look like dwarfs.
- Have you read the "fate of a person"? - I ask two girls on the second desk, seeing a record in their sheet.
“Well, yes,” one of them rests his eyes on the table, as if blinded.
- Who is the author?
“Andrei Sokolov,” Guzitaev screams from the last desk. The smallest tenth grader, living like batteries.
- Sholokhov! - turns Dzgoyev. - Are you sick, or what?
I collect sheets, and we begin to study “fathers and children”. Alena is the only one in the class who is already reading Turgenev. I ask you to tell her what it is about in the first two chapters; Alena is confused and jumps from the chapter to the chapter.
“Raise your hand who does not know how to read,” I say, and everyone laughs.
- Maybe we will not read, but let's talk better? - asks Guzitaev.
For this, I suggest that he read for Odintsov. Bazarov - I myself. Guzitaev pushes over every word, grunting and turning back. It is almost never visible because of the desk.
“I apologize for interrupting you,” the head teacher enters the office. - Guys, who is going to Spartak tomorrow? Those who wish?
- Will there be a lesson? - asks George.
- Will.
“For tomorrow, prepare a message about nihilism,” Ilena say.
- For tomorrow? Let's go? - Alena turns to her desk neighbor. “Write me down,” she screams the head teacher. - Will you go?
“I don’t know ...” the boy next to Alena runs in large sad eyes in her hands.
- And Slavika! She screams, throwing Turgenev into her bag.

The wind drove wet snotty snow, and it covered the stadium field with a thick layer. When large stooped torch-bearing people lazily left the stands, the audience in fur coats, coats and burrs waved with colored flags. More than fifteen people handed each other Olympic fire, circling along the endless trajectory of Spartak. The photographers ran after them in the middle of the noticeable lawn and were similar to cripples. Their feet are deeply bogged down in the snow. The cadets in knitted hats with pompons, filling the western part of the stands, shouted louder, maybe because there were no jackets on them. Colored holes of empty seats constantly fell into the frame. When the last torchloreman is reactive, as if frozen the strongest, swept to the Olympic bowl, at the stadium announced the completion of the fire relay and turned on the Christmas tree.
- How did you go through a relay? - In the morning I go to the teacher’s room, where Diana sits in a detachment.
“Everything has passed terribly,” she says. - We stood in such a cold there for two hours. My tears flowed and froze on my face. The children cried, asked home - on her a thin gray dress to her knees. The legs completely hide high boots. - When it became very cold, I let them go. And so we went out, and at the exit we are met by the deputy head of the Department of Education Larionov and says: “Go away. You still do not know how to raise children. ” And with such words, she led us for all the good ... For almost two hours they are in this cold there ... I can’t even five minutes ... Right now, I’m going from stopping to school and I think: “How did I survive at the stadium yesterday?” In order for the children to rise and wave the flags, I persuaded them for half an hour.
Each teacher give a gun! Let them be armed! We will shoot students!
“So you returned after meeting her?”
- We returned. But human ingratitude ... In principle, we risked the lives of children yesterday. When I saw this picture there ... - She picks up words. - Martial law! We stood in the upper rows, and here for almost every person there was one policeman. That is, I personally had no sense of security, I personally had no sense of the holiday. There were 19 people, and one policeman was definitely assigned to us. Then, somewhere else, about three people stood near us, plus there were additionally police officers, Emchees, sappers, dogs, doctors ... What kind of holiday should a person have? What is the feeling of the holiday? I only had a feeling of fear, anxiety, if only it ended faster. And the children ... Okay, I would have been there. I came home yesterday, took off everything, put my legs in the battery and did not even feel whether she warms me or does not warm.
Over the head of Diana, orange balls on gold threads stuck to the ceiling. A large plush clown sits on the closet behind her and smiles at the whole mouth.
“Children still love to fit in front of each other, do not dress warmly,” says Diana. “They, in principle, dressed as these, but imagine: you are in a sweater, and you are still a thin shirt.” And in this form, a boy from the eleventh grade came to the stadium. I, he says, warm loves. And when he froze, he says: "Love warms, but no sneakers."
Outside the door, Rita Kazbekovna's voice is heard: “Congratulations! The trade union committee congratulates! "
On the creaking floor of the corridor, I go to the lesson. All walls at school are hung with quotes from ancient Greeks and Ossetian authors. Under them, hugging sticks in pots, palm trees grow. Rita Kazbekovna in the Red Cardigan and a long black skirt in short steps goes to meet me. She looks like a geisha: a scarlet artificial blush is scattered along her pale flabblabic cheeks, and long hair was removed into a curl with a hairpin. Brown dark glasses close their eyes similar to watermelon seeds.

There are four people in the class. Alan, Guzitaev, Slavik and Arsen. I did not notice Arsen in previous lessons, because he always listens to music. Arsen has a crooked nose, and his whole face seemed to be spent on the needles, from which small points remained. He peers above all because of the small desks.
Rita Kazbekovna sits at the last desk and fills the magazine. With rings in her arms and long nails, it looks like a witch.
“Once you don’t read books,” I say to the class, “then tell me this: what do you think, someday there was a time of ideal people?” What you are asking for now?
- Yes, before the youth began to engage in normal affairs immediately, but right now, who will be? - says Alan, as if asking for forgiveness.
Where are they? What are they? Never.
Paradise!" Patriotism!

- What?!

Nothing else.
Can you imagine?

Here you are! Why not?
