Eight Glonass satellites immediately failed

Immediately eight satellites of the GLONASS navigation system at the same time failed for half an hour on Tuesday night. According to Interfax, this is the second failure in the system since the beginning of the month.

The problems began about an hour after midnight on Tuesday. Spacecraft showed a sign of "unhealthy" in their ephemerides - data on the satellite position in space. This condition was preserved for half an hour, the Information and Analytical Center of Roscosmos said.

Shortly before that, another device failed. At about 22:20 to Moscow time, Monday problems began with a satellite. It is still in the status of "unhealthy" so far.

This is the second emergency in the GLONASS system in two weeks. On April 2, she failed for more than 10 hours. Spacecraft issued incorrect data on their location and, accordingly, provided consumers with incorrect navigation information. The error arose simultaneously on almost all devices.

As a source in the rocket and space industry explained to the agency, then the problem was caused by a “human factor” - software laying on board the devices of incorrect data.

On April 11, it became known that in the GLONASASS satellite group 22 apparatus of the required 24 work. Therefore, the system could not yet provide the entire Earth with a navigation signal. For the uninterrupted accessibility of the GLONASS system anywhere in the globe, 24 spacecraft is necessary. For navigation support for consumers in Russia, 18 devices are enough.
