The Olympic Committee of Russia (OKR) must be responsible for working to strengthen the positions of Russian sports in the international arena in order to avoid situations similar to the deviation of Russian protests to the results of the competition at the 2014 Olympics, said Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko.
“The first task of the OCD is international relations. And we don’t have to climb into another. We filed a protest twice at the Olympics - and lost twice, we must answer for this, so that new disciplines and types should not be included in the program. We need to answer for this!” - quotes the "R-Sport" statement by Mutko, made by him at a meeting of the Committee of the Federation Council on Social Policy.
Twice at the finish of the ski racing 2014 there were controversial situations concerning the Russians. In the Schiatlon, Maxim Vlegzhanin was prevented by Martin Yonsrud Sundbu, who won bronze, in the team sprint, the ski fall of the skier did not allow Nikita Kryukov to catch up with the Finn, Yaukhoyarvi himself. Both times, protests based on the results of the races were rejected .
“We gave the OCD a subsidy of 120 million rubles (for contributions to each international federation), but we won’t give it anymore, since there is no information where this money is spent,” the minister added. “If we are in the backyards, then, for example, we will be thrown out (from the OI program), and we will save it all over the world. This will happen if we will not work in international discords.”
Recall that the struggle was recommended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to exclude summer games from the program, but in September 2013 at the 125th IOC session, this sport retained the Olympic residence permit until 2024.
