T-34 tanks will be left at the memorial to Soviet soldiers in Berlin

On Monday, the German tabloid Bild, together with the Berlin edition of BZ, sent a petition to the Bundestag, asking them to remove Soviet T-34 tanks from the Memorial to the Fallen Soviet Soldiers, located near the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

German government spokesman Georg Streiter considered that such a requirement is contrary to international agreements. In 1990, Germany signed a document in which it pledged to "respect, maintain and care for" the monuments erected in Berlin in memory of fallen Soviet soldiers.

The German government fulfills its obligations and respects the perpetuation of the memory of the dead soldiers, and therefore will not violate international agreements and leave the tanks in their place. It is reported by Agence France Presse .

A memorial to the fallen Soviet soldiers was erected in the Tiergarten, one of the districts of the German capital, in 1945.
