Still deeply worried

US President Barack Obama on Thursday evening discussed the situation on the east of Ukraine with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron.

This was reported by the press service of the White House. Despite the adoption in Geneva, following the results of four -sided negotiations, the resolution on "de -escalation of tension" in Ukraine, the leaders of the USA and Germany are still "deeply concerned" with the situation. And after Obama’s conversation with Cameron, it became known that the UK will allocate 1 million pounds to support the OSCE mission in Ukraine.

During a telephone conversation with the German Chancellor, the US President praised the approach of the Ukrainian government against the negotiations held on Thursday in Geneva, during which it put forward constructive proposals to expand local self -government and ensure that the rights of all residents of Ukraine are protected. Obama and Merkel agreed that Russia should take immediate and specific measures to relieve tension in eastern Ukraine, including with the help of its influence on pro -Russian armed activists, forcing them to lay down their weapons and leave the captured buildings.

The US President and German Chancellor also agreed that the United States and Europe were ready to take further measures if the de -escalation does not occur in the near future, and emphasized their support to the presidential election in Ukraine, scheduled for May 25.

In the evening, Barack Obama performed in Washington at a briefing for journalists. According to him, the previous actions of Russia in relation to Ukraine are forced to approach the prospects for her to fulfill the Geneva agreement with the share of skepticism:

"I hope that we will see the fulfillment of the agreement, but judging by the previous actions of Russia, in my opinion, it is impossible to count on this. We must be prepared to answer the ongoing attempts to intervene in the eastern and southern parts of Ukraine."

Speaking about the negotiations themselves in Geneva, the President of the United States noted that they were affected by the question of the fate of the Russian -speaking population of Ukraine that bothering Russia:

"It was a long and lively conversation. As I understand it, the Prime Minister of Ukraine in detail and in detail submitted the reforms that they intend to carry out, including reforms that provide guarantees for Ukrainians living in the south and east of the country. These are guarantees that they will be fully represented, that their rights will be protected, that speaking Russian in Ukraine will be completely protected by law."

President Obama called the public statement of negotiation participants in Geneva about the need to disarm all the irregular forces that occupy buildings in Ukraine. He noted that those who voluntarily lay down their weapons and leave the buildings and state institutions they occupy are promised amnesty. All this, the president believes, gives a glimpse of the hope that the law and order in the eastern and southern parts of Ukraine can be restored:

"The Russians have subscribed to these statements. The question is now whether they will be ready to use their influence, which they still applied destructively in order to allow the restoration of order in Ukraine so that Ukrainians get the opportunity to carry out elections, to carry out their reforms on decentralization, to stabilize the economy and return to even growth and democracy."

According to Obama, no doubt about the determination of the United States and its allies to continue to apply sanctions against Russia, if it does not stop destabilizing actions in Ukraine, should not be:

We have already influenced the Russian economy, and the situation may worsen significantly. But we are not interested in harm to ordinary Russians

"It is quite obvious that the Russian armed forces are still deployed on the border with Ukraine, and this is a gleam of intimidation. We, however, are not only us, but most members of the international community, we believe that Russia has a hand in the riots and chaos that we observe in southern and eastern Ukraine. But Russia is given the opportunity to do this in the other way. At the same time, we prepare additional answers of the answer if Russia is not. Change the course.

According to President Obama, instead of resorting to new sanctions, the United States would prefer that Russian President Vladimir Putin take advantage of the opportunity that is provided to him as a result of Geneva negotiations. However, Barack Obama said, it is simply impossible to count on it, and Washington will judge Russia for her matters, not words.
