
Today, April 21, a press conference of the official Russian delegation at the Cannes festival took place in Moscow.
It was attended by the head of Roskino Ekaterina Mcturidze, producer selected in the main contest of Leviathan Andrei Zvyagintseva Alexander Rodnyansky, Public Relations Director Peter Shepotinnik and producers of short films selected by Kann, Maria Ivanova and Nasib Piriev, Variety Russia reports.
Ekaterina Mcturidze talked about what will be the work of the Russian pavilion on the Cannes Film Film market Marché du Film , and presented the program of the best Russian short films of the Global Russians , which will be shown in the Russian pavilion. Global Russianans , in addition to Mcturidze, were Ivan Lopatin and Dmitry Kunin. Directors of films selected in Global Russians will personally come to Cannes and take part in the ProduCurs Network program.
Mcturidze noted that she was ready to present in the Russian pavilion a new documentary of Sergei Loznitsa “Maidan” if the director himself wants it. In addition, she said that on May 18, the evening of memory of Alexei Balabanov, who died a year ago, would be in the Russian pavilion just during the Cannes Film Festival.
This year, as part of the pavilion, the press conference of Glacier Films with the participation of actor Edrien Brody and rapper Akon will also be held, which will present the film “ The American Health”. In the Russian pavilion, presentations of projects for co-products, a conference on digitalization of the entertainment industry, and the presentation of the Rome animated studio will also be held.
Alexander Rodnyansky said that Andrei Zvyagintsev’s film “Leviathan” will be finally ready only for the premiere in Cannes and was taken to the festival competition in an incomplete form. Zvyagintsev’s work producer described as dramatic, smart, but, contrary to generally accepted opinion, not difficult for perception. “Leviathan”, according to Rodnyansky, is the next step and evidence of Zvyagintsev’s progress as a director. The budget of the film is more than 200 million rubles, 40% of which is the state subsidy.
The state financing of the Russian pavilion amounted to 5 million rubles. The remaining funds for the work of the site, according to Mcturidze, were allocated by Roskino partners - primarily Aeroflot.
Peter Shepotinnik noted that the MMKF traditionally declares the main positions of the future festival in the Russian pavilion, and appointed a press conference for May 19. The whisper also said that the MMKF program will be reformatted in comparison with the previous years, and also promised that in the next two to three days a new site of the festival will work. MMKF this year will open on June 19.
Maria Ivanova and Nasib Piriev from Buta Films talked about their producer project “The Last” by Sergey Pikalov, selected in the Cannes short competition. The Last is the first example of the Russian-Azerbadzhansk cooproduction.
