Moscow will restore all churches on Varvarka

Today, April 22, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that Varvarka Street will be made pedestrian and will restore all temples located in the very center of the city.

Sobyanin made this statement, examining the course of work on the restoration of the Zaikonospasky monastery together with Patriarch Kirill, Interfax reports.

“You know that a number of churches stand on Varvarka, and we proceed this year to their restoration along with the federal authorities, give subsidies for restoration,” said Sobyanin.

According to him, all work should be completed by the time of creating the Zaryadye Park . The organization of the pedestrian zone on Varvarka will unite this street into a single complex with Nikolskaya Street and Zaryadye. “This will be a large complex, a historical complex in the city center,” the mayor emphasized.

Now on Nikolskaya Street the restoration of the Zaikonospassky monastery is being held, where the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, the first higher educational institution in Russia, opened in the second half of the 17th century.
