Spielberg can remove Tom Hanks in the film adaptation of history about a guided Powers pilot in the USSR

The famous American director Stephen Spielberg can join as a director dedicated to one of the episodes of the Cold War-the history of the American reconnaissance of Lockheed U-2, shot down by the Soviet missile near Sverdlovsk, reports The Hollywood Reporter .

The main character will be the lawyer James Donovan, who was negotiating the liberation of the pilot of the downed aircraft Gary Powers. According to the publication, the role of a lawyer will be played by Hollywood actor Tom Hanks. It does not specify who will play the pilot himself.

DreamWorks studio will take care of the picture. The name for the tape has not yet been invented. The script of the film was written by Matt Charman, the producer is Mark Plett.

If Spielberg really joins the project, then this will be the fourth joint work of the director with Hanks in full -length cinema. Earlier, the director and actor collaborated in such tapes as "save the ordinary Ryan", "terminal" and "catch me if you can."

On May 1, 1960, the Lockheed U-2 spy plane under the control of Powers was shot down by the Earth-Air missile near Sverdlovsk. The pilot, who performed the task of the CIA and conducted photography of the Soviet territory, survived and, after landing, was detained by the inhabitants of the village of cook. The Soviet court sentenced Powers to 10 years in prison for espionage, recalls ITAR-TASS.

The American pilot spent 108 days in prison. In February 1962, in Berlin, Powers was exchanged for the Soviet intelligence officer Rudolf Abel (William Fisher) according to the agreement achieved by the government and the United States.
