South Korean rescuers identified the identity of the Russian from the sunken ferry "Sevol"

The seventh day of the rescue operation began in the yellow sea at the crash site of the South Korean ferry "Sevol". The day before, the divers managed to raise more than 20 bodies of the dead to the surface from a sunken ship. Among them was a young Russian whose identity has already been established. Meanwhile, experts who find out the cause of the tragedy reduced the number of priority versions of the crash.

If earlier, due to the unrest at sea and muddy water, divers failed to get aboard the sunken ferry, then on April 21 they not only penetrated the “Sevol”, but were also able to get into new rooms on the third and fourth decks. There they found the bodies of 23 dead, among which there were three foreigners.

The bodies of foreign citizens were not found immediately. Rescuers found the body of the first deceased at 17:40 local time. After half an hour, the corpse of the second foreigner was discovered. Initially, it was said about him that he "is most likely a schoolboy." An hour later, rescuers found the body of a third foreign citizen.

When the bodies of all 23 dead were raised to the surface, when examined by three foreigners, they found identification documents. With the help of them, it was possible to find out that the two dead were citizens of China - Lee Lee and Lee Cyan Hao, and a 17 -year -old Russian named Serkov turned out to be the third dead, Yonhap reports.

According to the "Russian newspaper" , which refers to the South Korean service of the coast guard, the deceased Russian called Serkov Vyacheslav Nikolaevich. He was 16 years old, he studied in the second grade of the highest stage at the Tanvon School of Ansan. In this city, according to Lifenews , Vyacheslav constantly lived with his relatives. Previously, the family submitted documents for South Korean citizenship.

After the personality of the Russian was established, information about his detection was transferred to the employees of the Embassy of the Russian Federation. Workers of the diplomatic department began to look for relatives of the deceased teenager. However, none of the relatives or friends of Vyacheslav, who are currently living in Korea, did not get in touch with the embassy. Probably, they did not consider it necessary, since the young man’s mother is at the crash site from the first day.

Participants in the rescue operation previously said that during the crash on the ship there were five foreigners, among whom were three men and two women. Now Yonhap clarifies that women got out of the water intact and unharmed at the very beginning of the rescue operation. They turned out to be natives of the Philippines.

After the rescuers on April 21 lifted to the surface the discovered bodies of the dead, information was adjusted by the number of missing people. According to the latest data, 104 people died as a result of the tragedy, and the 198 fate remains unknown. The rest of the 476 people on board the "Sevola" managed to save.

Eyewitnesses of the tragic event claim that the number of dead could be much less if the crew of the vessel in time gave the command to evacuate passengers. But, judging by the latest data from the investigation, which is given by The Korea Herald , the commander of Sevola, Lee Zhong Sok and his deputies sent the ship to one of the crew members, which did not have proper qualifications for this, and left the steam under the guise of passengers one of the first.

Currently, Lee Jung Sok and several more people are arrested. According to Reuters, one of the arrested crew members explained that it was impossible to give a team to descent rescue boats, since Sevola had a strong roll for one side. In this situation, according to the crew, it would be impossible to lower the boats into the water.

What caused the tragedy, so far it has not been possible to find out using the interrogation of the team. The only thing the investigators came to over the past few days of work, as AP reports was not to make any sharp maneuvers before the ferry accident. Thus, the investigators denied the version according to which the ship sank due to a sharp turn, which resulted in a strong roll. Earlier, experts interviewed by Yonhap, suggested that the ferry sank due to a clash with an underwater rock.

Rescue work at the crash site "Sevola", which sank on April 16 20 kilometers from the southeastern coast of South Korea, is still ongoing. Now in the rescue zone there are 212 ships of the coast guard and the fleet of South Korea. About 550 specialists are also involved in the work. Among them there are divers who are performing several dives per day to a sunken ferry. Representatives of local authorities do not exclude that a rescue operation may drag on for two months.
