The mourning ceremony of farewell to the famous Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez took place on Monday in the capital of Mexico in the Palace of Fine Arts. After the end of the ceremony, held in the lobby of the Palace of Fine Arts, the participants of the event showered the hall with petals of yellow roses, which the famous writer loved very much during his lifetime. On the eve of the ceremony, thousands of admirers of the brilliant talent of Garcia Marquez got the opportunity to say goodbye to the writer. They left numerous bouquets of white roses near the urn with the ashes of the writer, which was installed in the lobby of the Palace of Fine Arts.

As noted by the chairman of the National Council for Culture and Art (NSKI) Mexico Rafael Product-de-Seza, "in the nineteenth century Tolstoy, Dostoevsky and Chekhov made Russian literature universal, and in the twentieth century Garcia Marquez for Spanish-language literature achieved." The writer, born on March 6, 1927 in Colombia and lived for half a century in Mexico, "cannot be considered the property of only these two countries: he is the heritage of all mankind," said the head of the NSKI.

87-year-old Garcia Marquez died on April 17 in his residence, located in one of the districts in the south of the Mexican capital. Until now, the relatives of the Nobel Prize in the field of literature of 1982 have not reported where the writer's ashes would be buried.

Garcia Marquez, a great prose writer and Nobel Laureate of 1982 literature, died at the age of 87 in Mexico City. He died a little more than a week after he was discharged from the capital's clinic, where he was urgently hospitalized on March 31 with suspicion of pneumonia.
