What is happening today in eastern Ukraine is very reminiscent of the events of the beginning of the 90s of the last century in Transnistria. Except that in the preverseness, immediately after gaining the Moldova sovereignty, supporters of independence came to power, and the share of supporters of even limited sovereignty in the Donbass is much less, events in both regions develop according to a similar scenario. The similarity is amazing: the frantic enthusiasm of the population (in the Donbass is still more correct to say “noticeable enthusiasm”), the same accusations of fascism of the right bank - in one case of the Dnieper, in another of the Dniester. The Transnistrians said that they agree to be Moldovans, but not by Romanians, the inhabitants of Donbass say that they are Ukrainians, but not the "Bandera". Of course, the past two decades have made their amendments. In Transnistria, they long and persistently retained the adjective "socialist" in the name of their unrecognized republic. Here they seemed to want to preserve the outgoing era. Signs of the Soviet era were visible even in small things: for example, local schoolgirls wore Soviet school uniform, including white tights and apron. In Ukraine, of course, you can’t find this anymore: almost no one here says about the revival of the USSR or a return to socialism, but some nostalgia for the “destroyed empire”, especially among the older people, is present. The Moldovan authorities once stated that in reality, Transnistrian separatism is conducted from the Kremlin. To admit me, who saw the genuine enthusiasm of the local population, initially this information caused a strong doubt. The spirit and sincerity of the ongoing spontaneous rallies, on which local residents continuously shouted "Transnistria!", Involuntarily infected with his energy even journalists working in the region. Almost any conversation with the Transnistrians inevitably ended in a conversation about Romanian fascism and the requirements of "write the truth." My skepticism could not even shake that at rallies I had to see old women with posters: “Children of Transnistria against Romanian fascism” (posters were centralized and sometimes, in a hurry, the demonstrators were taken not what they should be supplied). I had to change my point of view when it became reliably known that the Secretary of State of the Transnistrian Republic, and in reality the "gray cardinal" of an unrecognized state, Valery Lycai in Soviet times was a full -time employee of the KGB. The news of the "gray cardinal" partially explained other Transnistrian oddities: for example, the fact that the former OMON fighters from the Baltic republics moved here in the mass manner, and the Riga officer of the criminal investigation department Vladimir Antyuheev became the Minister of Security (who replaced the Transnistria to Vadim Shevtsov). "Yes, the Transnistrian revolution was heading from the center, but this is possible only if the population is really very displeased. In the Baltic states, we also wanted to go this way, but it did not work there!" - explained in a confidential conversation with the Rosbalt correspondent after the "exposure" Valery Lycai, one of the leaders of local "separatists". Of course, the situation in eastern Ukraine, despite all the similarity, is different. And let's even believe for a moment that the Kremlin did not inspire unrest in this region, but at the same time to think that the former intelligence officer Putin will not try to use the protest movement would be at least naively. At one time, the chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Anatoly Lukyanov, told the then President of Moldova Mirce Snegur: "Do not want a Transnistrian problem - sign a allied agreement!". Perhaps now Vladimir Putin was going to build relationships with the West according to the same scheme: “You will not interfere with our influence in the CIS, there will be no problem of eastern Ukraine”. ”However, it is possible that after the events in Slavyansk the situation was controlled and it, indeed, no one would steer.
