The first candidate to submit an application for the President of Syria was a communist from the city of Aleppo, 43-year-old deputy of the People’s Council Maher Abdel Hafiz Hajar, ITAR-TASS reports.

The day before, the deputy filed an application for registration in the country's highest constitutional court, and a few hours earlier he sent an appeal to his colleagues with a request to support him in the elections.

To complete the registration of Hajaru, it is necessary to enlist the support of 35 parliamentarians. In a letter, he expressed the hope that the deputies would express his trust in him.

Registration for the President of Syria will last until May 1. The elections themselves are scheduled for June 3. According to the Constitution, a citizen of the republic of 40 or more years, who has lived in his homeland for the past 10 years and has no foreign citizenship, may apply to the presidency.
