The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Switzerland President Didier Burkkhalter, presiding in the OSCE, condemned the detention of military inspectors of the organization in Slavyansk, calling the incident a "contradictory spirit of the Geneva Agreement", and called for their release, reports Vedomosti with reference to the OSCE statement.
On April 25, at the entrance to Slavyansk, a bus with the inspection group of the OSCE, which included representatives of Germany, Sweden, Poland, Denmark and the Czech Republic, was detained unknown. Later, the leader of the "People's Militia of Slavyansk" Vyacheslav Ponomarev called the detainees "prisoners of war" and said that he was ready to exchange them for his deputy Igor Peresanko, who disappeared after returning from Moscow, as well as "other comrades."
According to the results of Sunday negotiations, one of the detainees was released - the Swedish driver suffering from diabetes. Information about his release was confirmed by the Burkkhalter.
The chairman of the OSCE thanked all the parties participating in the release of inspectors. "He expressed the hope that the signals from the Russian side about the support of the release efforts that are of key importance will immediately lead to progress in this regard," the document says.
