The Government of Ukraine decided to sue Gazprom. According to RIA Novosti, this said the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk. At the same time, he expressed his readiness to pay off the $ 2.2 billion debt accumulated in front of the Russian gas monopolist, provided that Gazprom would return the price of the first quarter.
In mid -April, it became known that the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine is preparing documents for contacting the Stockholm arbitration on the revision of gas contracts with Russia. The government began to involve international lawyers who have already collaborated with companies that turned to arbitration.
Ukraine has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with Gazprom with prices, which now amount to $ 485 per thousand cubic meters. In particular, the presidential candidate Petro Poroshenko proposed to revise existing gas contracts.
Gas Agreements, according to which Gazprom is now being supplied to Ukraine, were reached in January 2009. The agreement was signed by the then Prime Ministers of the two countries Vladimir Putin and Yulia Tymoshenko.
Later, Ukraine received two significant gas discounts. The first of them was established under the Kharkov agreements of 2010, when Russia provided Ukraine with a benefit in exchange for extending the lease of the Black Sea Fleet base in Sevastopol. Based on the results of the negotiations of Vladimir Putin and the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, in November 2013, received the second.
Both of these discounts operated in the first quarter of 2014, as a result of which the price of gas for Ukraine was $ 268.5 per thousand cubic meters. Since April, they were canceled by Gazprom, which explained this step by non -payment from Ukraine.
