Japan has imposed new sanctions against Russia

Japan announced the introduction of new sanctions against Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine, reports Reuters. Sanctic measures were taken against 23 people.

"Japan expresses serious concern to the fact that Russia's actions that violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including the annexation of Crimea, continue," the Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kisida said in a statement. At the same time, he did not name the names of people who fall under sanctions, and did not directly say that it was Russians. The Foreign Ministry added that the Japanese list is based on similar lists of the United States and the European Union.

In March, Tokyo suspended consultations with Russia to facilitate the visa regime and postponed the beginning of negotiations on a number of joint projects. According to the results of these consultations, it was planned to sign agreements on investment cooperation, on cooperation in the development of space and on the prevention of dangerous military activities.

On April 28, the United States announced new sanctions against 17 Russian companies and seven officials. The American list includes, in particular, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Alexei Pushkov, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Vyacheslav Volodin, Presidential Polsense in the Crimean Federal District Oleg Belaventsev, Head of the Federal Security Service Yevgeny Murov.

Following the United States, the European Union announced the expansion of sanctions - the list will include 15 more Russians, the names of which will be called on Tuesday. They will be forbidden to enter the EU territory, and their accounts will be frozen. Later, Canada also announced the adoption of punitive measures against nine Russian politicians and businessmen and two credit organizations - Expobank and Rosenergobank.

In March, after the accession of Crimea to Russia, the United States has already imposed sanctions against Russia. The essence of the measures taken is to block accounts and the ban on the entry of a number of representatives of the top leadership of the country and large businessmen. In addition, the sanctions affected the Bank "Russia", which actually lost the opportunity to work abroad. Similar steps were taken by the leadership of the European Union.
