Medvedev also instructed to discuss with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs measures that need to be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

The head of government also asked Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who was part of the delegation, about what happened. When asked whether Russian officials had previously agreed with their Moldovan colleagues about a visit to Transnistria, Rogozin replied: “Naturally.” According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Moscow duly notified Chisinau through the Russian Ambassador to Moldova.

“The Ambassador met with the relevant people at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, but they referred to the fact that they were on vacation from the 8th to the 10th and did not see an opportunity for a meeting. Rogozin also said that the Russian delegation had to get to Transnistria through the airspace of Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria.

A Russian government delegation visited Transnistria on Friday. On the evening of May 9, Rogozin reported that the leadership of Moldova refused to meet with him. On Saturday, the government plane carrying the delegation was closed to the airspace of both Ukraine and Romania, and the plane was forced to turn around and land in Chisinau.
