The correspondent of Novaya Gazeta Pavel Kanygin, who was detained by the fighters of the self -proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), were released. Kanygin himself told about this on the live the Rain TV channel.

During the detention, as the correspondent said, representatives of the Donetsk People’s Republic asked him why he writes a negative nature about the referendum in the Donetsk region about independence.

“There were threats that now they would take me to the forest and shoot. They agreed that they took everything from me - all the money that I have, ”the correspondent said and added that he then woke up in the hotel, after which he got in touch with his colleagues.

Earlier, New Gazeta reported that Kanygin got in touch with the editors. The publication promised to provide details about the state of Kanygin after his return to Moscow. The leadership of the DPR, in turn, refuted the connection with the people who stole Pavel Kanygin.

“At the moment, there have been a large number of groups that copy the DPR, but are not such. None of the requirements of the DPR during the detention of persons included monetary claims. When the detention of persons occurs, it occurs with the aim of further exchange for the so -called Kiev authorities for detainees from the so -called Kyiv, ”said Slon, co -chair of the DPR government, Miroslav Rudenko.

Rudenko explained that he did not have information about the whereabouts of Kanygin, and he considers his seizure to be the actions of provocateurs. On the night of May 12, Kanygin was detained in Artemovsk in the Donetsk region. Representatives of the DPR self -defense said that the correspondent did not have the necessary accreditation, and in his personal things they discovered "materials of a negative nature against the Donetsk People’s Republic." The journalist himself turned to his colleagues for help in liberation from captivity. He, in particular, reported that he was asked for a ransom of $ 1000.
