Kazakhstan will prohibit alcohol imports from June 1

The Consumer Protection Agency of Kazakhstan from June 1, 2014 will ban the import of alcohol into the territory of the republic. This was reported by the press service of the department.

The reason for the ban is a violation of national legislation and the technical regulations of the Customs Union in the trade in imported alcohol. So, many goods are incorrectly indicated on the age limit in the use of alcohol and the labels are generally incorrectly designed: there is no translation of the necessary information into the Kazakh language, the addresses of manufacturers and importers are not indicated, and so on.

The technical regulation of the Customs Union “On the Safety of Alcoholic Products” was developed and approved by the executive bodies of the vehicle in 2012, but still undergoes the stage of intraranial regulation, therefore it is not mandatory. Issues of the technology of production, packaging and labeling of alcohol relate to the management of governments of countries included in the vehicle.

A complete ban on the import of alcohol, even if temporary, is an unprecedented measure for the countries of the vehicle. In September 2012, Russia introduced a temporary ban on the import of strong alcohol from the Czech Republic in connection with alleged cases of poisoning. Various restrictions on imports into Russia of certain types of alcohol from Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine were introduced and canceled in 2005-2014 repeatedly.
