The debut album Kito Jempeere “ Objects ” sounds and looks that it is impossible to establish a country of its origin. Strict bits, fashionable synthesizers, abundant percussion and even saxophone inclusions - such electronic music is made in Scandinavia, which is reminiscent of the names of the tracks, and in England, in which the respected Freerange label is spelled out Records producing Kito music Jempeere . In fact, it turns out that kito Jempese is a personal project of the St. Petersburg musician Kirill Sergeyev, who could be seen in the Uniquetunes ensemble and the Saint Discus Bend Petersburg Disco Spin Club . However, Friends of Cyril - many friends took part in the work on Objects .
- What about the album “Objects” should be told to be perceived correctly?
- This is still my first solo album for all the time of music. I composed it quickly enough: 10 tracks in 10 days. I remember that we went to the Petrodvorets and my wife and I decided to take albums on the road - I took Squarepusher on CD for a long time “Ultravisitor” , Pixies “Bossanova” , also bought the last plate of James Blake, and I felt that I wanted an album.
It’s very stupid from the marketing point of view, I was just preparing the first single “confusion” for Freene , the artist in essence did not exist, but I decided and did. He allocated 10 days in a row and did the track every day (musical content-some samples, drums), then I added parts with the help of our friends, they have very cool ones, and we interacted easily. In almost all tracks, Leonid Lipelis synthesizers helped to twist, for “Jarvi” , we twisted synthesizers with Sanya Lestyukhin (Poima / Lesca / Eat My Beat Mr. Lenski) , Leo Sukhodolsky played with him on the Saxophone (we used to play with UNIQUETUNES ), BAS Dima Midborn from On-The-Go , Anton Malinen played on Rodes-Piano, Seryozha Lipsky- SPDSC guitarist and 1/2 of my favorite duet Simple Symmetry -played on the guitar, in “Jarvi” and “Lumo” percussias were recorded by Ricardo Aryel Toribio from the Dominican, the percussion. There he wrote them, sent me on the Internet. The only song on the album belongs to Yana Drinder, I really like how she sang here, it actually was an outlet from the SPDSC recording, we planned a song from Jay Shepheard , but in the end I did it myself, she went to the album well, becoming completely different.
I have been spending time on music all my life, but whether it means something, I do not know.
We did mixing with-I’m not afraid of this word-Ear-Genia Roma Urazov, he is now working with Rick Rubin in Los Angeles. Roma generally made an invaluable contribution to my music - he, like no one else, hears everything and understands everything, a very cool director. Mastering was done by the Japanese musician Kuniyuki Takahashi . Sasha Lecius makes a video for each song . The cover was drawn by Pasha Ripley, a very talented artist, many do not see at once (which is good), but here is the image of the dog on the cover. The packaging itself was made by the guys from the Taiga (Palace, 20 in St. Petersburg), they have a Harmony printing house there. Dima Oshmarin, my friend, came up with how all this should be assembled and to be from the production side, all the covers - from unprocessed cardboard, did everything manually. I myself took part, we collected all copies here, in St. Petersburg, in the Taiga, there were from 4 to 12 people, and it was a conveyor. A very cool experience, so if you hold my disk or plate, then most likely I also held this box (either squeezed out letters, or glued, or collected - you can buy directly from the United States on www.fmorgana.bandcamp.com ).
And if we talk about the musical component, then everything that I always loved is my main influences, experiences, etc. The only thing-by the will of chance, the composition of the album fell into my house/techno-period, so here almost everything is laid on a 4x4 barrel.
-Dance electronics is a rigidly segmented genre, where it is important to accurately indicate the style, prescribe tags in order to be in the right section Juno.co.uk or in the correct box of the record-shop. On which shelf and in which box would you like to place Objects ?
- I hate to denote genres, but on Juno.co.uk the album is already lies in Deep House , partly the road there. If I had my own store, I would place it on the shelf face (since it looks really unexpected - the packaging itself, etc.), and nearby, probably, is still extra -fired things. I created an album that you can listen to, I would not advise it to dance under it (except for a couple of tracks).
- Why did you take the “Finnish” pseudonym - what did Kirill Sergeev arrange you?
- Indeed, Kirill Sergeev was an option, even there was just a Kirill option. This story with a new name began when, not yet thinking about this, I worked under Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club was just a solo sale with our Big-Bend concerts. Everything suited me, and I just signed the record on the English label Freerange Records , his boss Jamie Odell (his dad Roger Odell, the drummer of the once famous group Shakatak ), better known as Jimpster , once asked me if I want to take a new name, they say, “ SPDSC is somehow too associated with the disco/ re - edit -Istoria, and you have a completely different one. " It was necessary to come up with something. I quickly remembered that my mother said to me in childhood that I was born under the symbols of the Japanese emperor-rain, Thursday, Big Black Dog, so Emperor of Japan> Japan Emperor> Jempere came immediately when replacing the last syllable with a really Finnish manner of the very stuck Kito , and almost Kirill and Kiitos (“Thank you” in Finnish), and something again Japanese (Kyoto) .
- In one interview, I read your confession that you have neither a sense of rhythm or a sense of harmony - and that you prefer to chop tracks on the AKAI MPC sampler. Is something changed during this time?
- The recognition was not ironic. Everything remained, but I began to play more, I began to knock more, so somewhere with harmony it became better, somewhere with rhythm.
- Tell me about the labels on which Kito Jempese is released - what is Fata Morgana and what is Freerange Records ? Why are they?
-Fata Morgana is a label under the album, here I was very supported by my friend Yura Rosenman, the GlenView Records label-boss in America. I also work for GlenView , so it was our test project, the name was invented by Dima Oshmarin, we started the audiovisual label in essence, and now we will figure out how to be further, I think-there can be psychedelic rock.
Freerange is one of the most respected diplomatic lies, so for me the honor to be part of this label.
- What will happen further with the SPDSC project ? Will you still be alive?
-We have recorded a couple of songs recently, now they are boiled in Roma in Los Angeles, so there are some plans for the release, but so far I’ll keep silent. Of course, I will participate. SPDSC for us is not a project or group, this is another way to see and hang out to everyone. I live in St. Petersburg, all the guys are in Moscow, so every meeting is a buzz. Therefore, I love concerts and especially tour. We will play, but rarely. If someone calls 9 people to hang out and play a muscle, we will come, hang and play.
-What is the Kito Jempeere project, in your opinion, should we achieve-for example, a year or five years later?
“I don't want to think about it.” What does it mean “should” - in terms of “deserves”? I have been spending time on music all my life, but whether it means something, I do not know. Let's see. Time will arrange everything.
