Peskov urged not to use gaps in the legislation for persecution on social networks

Using gaps in the legislation for persecution of media or social networks is unacceptable. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov to the newspaper Izvestia .

At the same time, he noted that social networks should show the maximum
responsibility subject to the laws of the Russian Federation.

On May 16, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev advised officials announcing the closure of the largest world social networks in Russia to “sometimes turn on the brains”. Thus, he reacted to an interview with the deputy head of Roskomnadzor Maxim Ksenzov, who announced the possible blocking of access to Twitter throughout the country.

Subsequently, Ksenzov denied information about the possible blocking of access to Facebook and Twitter.

According to him, the Twitter administration constantly ignores Roskomnadzor's requirements for removing content, which the department is considered extremist. Ksenzov noted that the application for the possible blocking of microblogs is “rather a verbal warning of the leadership” of social networks.
