Switzerland has joined the new sanctions of the European Union against Russia, adding to its list the same 13 people, to which on May 12 extended the EU sanctions. It is reported by The Wall Street Journal. It is claimed that such a measure is accepted so that the defendants in the EU list could not bypass the restrictions imposed on them. Swiss sanctions imply a ban on these persons to enter the country and for the conclusion of business claims with local financial consultants.
After May 12 , 61 people are already listed in the sanctions list of the European Union. On May 12, it included the first deputy head of the presidential administration Vyacheslav Volodin, the Commander of the Airborne Forces Vladimir Shamanov, the head of the Duma committee on constitutional law and state building Vladimir Pligin, as well as a number of officials of the occupied Crimea and terrorists in eastern Ukraine.
At the same time, the leaders of Gazprom were not among the new defendants in the list. Maya Kosianchich, spokeswoman for the head of European diplomacy Katherine Ashton, on May 14 stated that at the current stage it was not supposed to extend sanctions to them .
Meanwhile, the next day, Vedomosti wrote that the seizure of the Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexei Miller from the draft version of the sanctions list was lobbied by European partners of the state corporations , in particular from Germany, France and Italy. As reported, businessmen were afraid that sanctions against Miller would significantly complicate cooperation with Gazprom.
